Hi, we’re new to food allergies AND going to school. Our kindergartner was just diagnosed as allergic to wheat, milk, eggs, and all tree nuts. I’ve been adapting at home (we’ve suspected for quite some time so I was already getting use to some aspects). However, adding the new complication of school is overwhelming. Please help.
Hi, I’m so sorry you’re feeling overwhelmed. Everyone’s first year at school, at any age, for a free-from kid feels almost impossible at times. I can tell you this: most likely, this will be the hardest it gets where school is concerned. Sure, you’re going to face other challenges in the future. As they come though, you’ll be more seasoned and have a much better handle on how free-from and school work together. I say that to say, have hope. It will get easier.
Below are some articles and resources to get you started. I’m not going to chat at you a bunch because there’s just too much to say on these topics, hence the resources. RAISE (membership website), also has some excellent back to school resources. You can find them all in one place here.
